Harte Research Institute

 

 

 

 

 

Antarctic Scientists: 

Terry Palmer and Hae-Cheol Kim are the primary researchers in the Island to Ice education project.  They both work at the Harte Research Institute (HRI), part of Texas A & M University - Corpus Christi, in Corpus Christi, Texas.  Terry and Hae-Cheol, along with two other researchers Andrew Klein and Steve Sweet are conducting a research project that involves monitoring the effects of human activities at McMurdo Station, Antarctica.  Andrew Klein and Steve Sweet, work at Texas A&M University - College Station. 

  • Terry Palmer (terry.palmer@tamucc.edu) is a researcher studying water quality and benthic ecology at HRI.  Benthic ecology is the study of organisms in the sea floor, such as bivalves, snails, shrimp and worms.  Terry is from Papamoa, New Zealand and this is the sixth time that he has traveled to Antarctica.

 

 

 

  • Hae-Cheol Kim (hae-cheol.kim@tamucc.edu) is also a researcher in the Ecosystems Modeling Lab at HRI.  He is originally from Korea and has been living in Texas for over 2 years.  He has been to Antarctica a few times on research vessels but this is his first time to McMurdo Station.

 

 

 

  • Andrew Klein Andrew is an Associate Professor in Geography at Texas A&M University. He specializes in the use of computers for mapping (Geographic Information Systems) and to analyze images of the cold regions of the world to study snow and glaciers (remote sensing).  This is his nineth trip to Antarctica.

 

 

  • Steve Sweet is a research scientist at Texas A & M University in College Station, Texas.  Steve has conducted research both on the Antarctic Peninsular and at McMurdo Station.  This is his tenth trip to Antarctica.

 

 

 

  • From Papamoa, NZ:
